After the Fog

Friday, April 30th, 2010

This rather naff pic was taken yesterday evening while I was walking the dog past Newman House. This group from Holland are starting the weekend as they mean to carry on and we hope they have a great weekend. Flying started again yesterday late afternoon and all is OK again today with 2 boats coming today as well. The first boat is pretty much full (600 people) and I think the second one in the afternoon has over 400 booked at the moment. Have a great weekend everyone. tg

There is an ‘f’ in FOG.

Not a good start to the weekend. Last night the cloud dropped and this morning when I through back the curtains it was as thick as a bag. Not what our visitors want. Hers what it was like earlier. tg

Almost Here for 2010

The World Championship Gig Championships are here again and the islands are already getting busy. Not too much Lycra on show yet but give it a couple more days and it will all change. This year see’s another increase in boat numbers and I can tell you we have seen them all passing our office window going up to Longstone to be stored and now they are all coming back again. I’m sure someone can email me and tell me ‘What are the mainland clubs practicing in if their boats are over here for a couple of months?’. That has always fascinated me.
Anyway there about 130 boats entered this year so it will be quite a show on Saturday with the main charge from St Agnes although I’ve just seen the weather forecast so it could be a tricky start. We wish all the visitors and competitors a very enjoyable weekend and we hope you all enjoy your stay and the islands. tg

Some pics will follow over the weekend.

What ‘ave we ‘ere then!!!

Something you don’t see on Scilly very often, ‘boys and their toys’. The islands Constabulary were out to play today with their new Radar Speed Trap. Not that there are any speeding motorists on the islands but just here as a precautionary measure to maintain the sedate driving manner always observed by Islanders. Seriously it might make some of the motor bikers and drivers think about slowing down a bit now that the visitors are with us. Evening All. tg
