We often get some very interesting boats calling in on the islands but rarely anything more interesting, or elegant, than ‘Bluebird of 1938′. This beautiful motor yacht was originally built for Sir Malcolm Campbell and launched as “Blue Bird IV” in 1938. After several other owners and names, one of whom was Jean-Louis Renault of car fame, she was totally restored in 2000 which amazingly was overseen by her original designers, G. L. Watson.
Anyway I can tell you that she was moored in St Mary’s Roads, just off Tresco, for a couple of days this week and she looked fantastic. She is now on her way to Helford near Falmouth.
